The Queens own Royal west Kent was a line infantry regiment of the British army which was based in kent and existed From 1881 to 1961.
It was formed by merging the 50th The Queen's own regiment of foot and the 97th The Earl of Ulster's regiment of foot. These became the 1st and 2nd regular battalions.
The second battalion served in South Africa during the Boer war ( 1899 - 1902)
Both 1st and 2nd battalions were deployed during the first world war to France, Mesopotamia ( Iran ), Italy and the Western Front.
In 1921 The unit changed its name to The Queen's own West Kent regiment.
